Are you having a hard time meeting your episode release schedules? Perhaps it is time for you to consider its possible reasons, which can include the practice of a bad habit. As the saying goes, habits either make us or break us be it in career or in personal life. Here are 10 bad habits that delay your podcasting process.

1. Inability to decide

Brain drain, lack of clarity, confusion — all of which can become overwhelming to the point that you cannot decide which idea or direction to pursue.

However, making a decision is needful in all aspects of a podcasting process. And whether you do it immediately or put it off to a later time, you still need to decide on something at the end of the day.

2. Drifting into fantasy

Sometimes it is hard to avoid engaging our thoughts to pleasant possibilities; podcasting opens an array of opportunities for growth and success.

As a consequence, you could end up daydreaming or diverting your attention to things that are irrelevant to your current tasks or things that have not yet come to fruition.

But, you know that shouldn’t be. You can choose to focus on the present reality instead of drifting into fantasy.

3. Distraction from technology

Technology enables you to communicate with your podcast team and stay updated, but it also has the capacity to distract you from fulfilling your responsibilities.

How often do you check your phone for social media notifications or text messages? Is it getting in the way of your work? And is it necessary that you check it all the time?

Your usual line could be, “Oh, it is still too early to complete this! I might as well do this later.” Unfortunately, later may turn into days or never at all.

But instead of procrastinating, you can use your time wisely by working on the things you need to complete. They could be:

  • Interviewing podcast guests
  • Editing your upcoming episode
  • Gathering resources for listeners
  • Writing show notes

Taking action saves you not only time but also energy and money.

5. Keeping a messy workplace

How long does it take you to find your files and folders? Keep up with your podcasting process by having a neat and arranged system in place.

Workflows help streamline the process for the entire podcast team. They serve as guides on how each team member is expected to complete his role.

Among the questions that workflows can answer are:

  • How should an audio episode, video, or show notes be structured?
  • Where can the member download images and other files?
  • How long should a piece of content be?
  • To whom should the member report to upon completion?
  • Are there anything else that the member is free to perform in accordance to the task?

Do you have your workflows set up already? Follow them to avoid having a delay in your podcasting process.

8. Always experimenting with new strategies

This goes back to the habit of indecision where you cannot make your mind on the things that you do for your podcast. Should you follow the principle of success that it behooves, it requires that you be firm on the things that you’ve decided to do.

You may come up with new strategies when you find them ineffective for your podcast. But a research from Google and Econsultancy suggests the importance of a clear strategy in terms of data and analytics.

So before you quit on a strategy and implement a new one, you might want to consider giving it your best shot. What can an unstable mind result into? You hold the key to success in your podcast.

9. Lack of communication

Communication is vital to achieving the desired results. Reach out to your guests when scheduling or conducting an interview. Also, reach out to your podcast team to carry out the process.

Are your lines open to the people you deal with or have you closed your door to them?

There are management software and messaging apps that you can use to maintain communication. You can use them to advance your podcasting process.

10. Seeing podcasting as a burden

What is podcasting to you? Does it make you smile after a long day, or does it weigh on you heavily like a pile of seemingly endless work?
